On the first Saturday in June, Seattle Public Library’s Douglas-Truth Branch will offer Introduction to Mindfulness & Calming Techniques for Stress & Anxiety for Adults with Siobhan Kekoa, a one-hour wellness class taught through the lens of an Afro-Indigenous Medicine Practitioner.
This trauma-informed class is designed for adults who want to learn more about 1) stress and wellness education and 2) practical calming and grounding techniques to help you feel more present and safely grounded in your body, mind, and daily life.

Class One of Two! This June, Seattle Public Library’s Lake City Branch will offer Quill Earring Making for Teens with Siobhan Kekoa, a 2-part cultural preservation series taught through the lens of a mixed Afro-Indigenous Wabanaki-descent Artist, Culture Keeper, and Medicine Practitioner.
This class will introduce students ages 14 - 18 to the basics of Quill Earring making in the style of my Wabanaki heritage as taught by my Elders. We will also honor Porcupine and its Medicine. All necessary materials are provided, and students will bring home a complete pair of wearable, individually hand-made single loop quill earrings with a simple tie off at the top.

This trauma-informed, culturally tailored class is specifically designed for intersectionally diverse young adults navigating the culmination of Pride Month and ongoing challenges to their existence, sense of identity, and belonging. Through this 90-minute co-creative class, we will safely explore: 1) fundamental stress and wellness education, 2) how to honor and move through anxiety without dismissing it, and 3) practical calming and grounding techniques to help you feel more present and safely grounded in your body, mind, and daily life…

This summer, Seattle Public Library’s Colombia Branch will offer Indigenous Storytelling & Beaded Bracelet Making with Siobhan Kekoa, a 1.5 hour workshop designed to connect teens to Indigenous stories and practices. This workshop offers nourishment through tangible forms of physical creativity and culture preservation.
During the workshop, attendees will be guided through making a small beaded bracelet or leather bag. All required materials will be provided for up to 20 students, and may include leather cord, hide, and glass or pony beads. Storytelling will include excerpts from You Were Made For This, Celebrated Indigenous Voices Speak to Young People (edited by Stephanie Sinclair and Sara Sinclair).
