Acrylic

Acrylic was the first paint medium I learned to work with. Early on, it sometimes confounded my natural instincts and became muddied by my inexperienced brushstrokes. My visualizations of colorful movement across the canvas felt rather restrained until I discovered pallet knives; these tools introduced wonderful textures and gradients. It’s been many years since I’ve worked with this medium alone, and this series is one of my favorites.

Along the same vein, most of these pieces were photographed before I understood how to properly document my work. Prints weren’t on my radar, and some of my best pieces were sold or gifted before “good” photographs were taken. Those which do exist are usually grainy or blurry, but I’ve come to appreciate this characteristic. These records have become meaningfully nostalgic, suspended in time, echoing the eras I’ve explored through the course of my life.
