Performance Event: Indigenous Storytelling & Sound Bath (1hr)

  • Madrona-Sally Goldmark Library 1134 33rd Ave, Seattle, WA 98122 Seattle, WA, 98107 United States (map)

The crystal singing bowls and handpan I will be playing during this event

On Saturday, August 8, Seattle Public Library’s Madrona-Sally Goldmark Branch will offer Indigenous Storytelling & Sound Bath with Siobhan Kekoa, a relaxing and immersive one-hour experience designed for kiddos and their caretakers, elders, and community members!

During this event, I'll read Indigenously authored and illustrated picture books, My Powerful Hair (Lindstrom & Littlebird) and Charlotte’s New Moccasins (Moudahi & McGregor). You and your young ones will also briefly learn about and enjoy a gentle, nourishing sound bath with crystal singing bowls, a handpan, and a bison-skin drum. (In between stories, little ones are invited to look at and engage with the handpan, which has a truly beautiful sound.)

~

This event is perfect for all ages and offers a lovely opportunity for multi-generational connection and healing. Those with small children are encouraged to attend!

Wear comfy clothing to relax in, and bring pillows and blankets if desired! Cushions, Indigenous coloring book pages, and crayons will be provided. There will only be two of these events this summer, and we hope to see you there!

From the same event series at the Broadview Library in Jan 2026: between story telling, kiddos and their caretakers engage with pieces of leather, fur, beads, sage, sweetgrass, and the handpan I play after story-time. (Faces blurred out to protect privacy, with the exception of myself, my teen (with permission), and our kind Seattle librarian, Mai!)
